M4 was coming in hot and dry this time, unlike the other 3 events this season, watering and prepping was done early so copious amounts of h2o could be applied. Riders got there to near muddy conditions and in typical Megacross fashion it dried quickly were spot watering would ensue. None of this hampered the racing as it was spot on and the new riders in the big classes are making names for themselves. So many have went from the little bikes to the full size machines and more over the riders who have self - advanced are retraining by finding out how they stack up in the higher classifications. Moving up specially from B to A is like jumping the grand canyon, very big gap in speeds and riders makeing that move, (Palka, Thompson, Olson) are showing they belong, it will take a bit of time til they getting into the mix deeper..............only takes one holeshot!
Grant Robinson (426) had no issue taking the lead in the Schoolboy class with Cody Hardesty (185) taking second and Bryce Arnold (9) taking third. It didn’t take long for Robinson to put some distance on the rest of class and give himself a little bit of room and by second lap around Arnold was already passed Hardesty, and was going to do whatever he could to try and catch Robinson and take the lead. Now that Hardesty was in third, Dane Miller (152) who was in fourth was coming right after him to try and take his spot and move his way up also. As each lap goes on we watch as Arnold is getting just a bit closer and closer to Robinson while at the same time same thing is happening with Miller and Hardesty. Were either of them going to have enough time to make a pass? Which one was going to do it first? As the final lap was coming down to an end Arnold was just inches away, if that, away from Robinson, but as they come to the finish line jump Robinson just makes it in time to win the race with Arnold taking second. Right after these two came in for the finish, here comes Hardesty and Miller, last corner before the jump, Hardesty takes outside while Miller takes inside hump and makes the pass to put himself in third just at the last second!
Sadie Quest (108) has come back to megacross after some time away and done so with speed and toughness she always has had. Abbie Buettner 515, moved up from the girls class and has started to make a name for herself as well. Now add to that both first and second moto we watch the competition between Taylor Longstreth (405) and Amanda Taylor (451). As these two were racing all night long, Longstreth was staying just barely ahead of Taylor, though there were many times where it looked like she was going to pass Longstreth, Taylor would get right up next to Longstreth just to where she was almost ahead but just couldn’t quite get a complete pass. Longstreth finished with a second and Taylor with a very close third!
We had a similar battle go on in the 40+ B/C class between Tim Buettner (92) and Jason Coleman (917). Buettner took the lead and snagged second shortly behind him. As laps wen by Coleman got closer and closer and on the last couple laps he was just inches behind on Buettner’s tail. Luckily, Buettner was able to hold off Coleman and take the win!
In the 65 Sr race, Tyller Bell (824) started off in fourth with William Neil (111) close behind in fifth. By the second lap Neil got close enough to where he could of made a pass but ended up making a mistake which set him back just a bit and gave Bell more time to keep that fourth. Even with making that mistake, Neill still got right back on him and actually ended up making the pass. Now that Neill got around Bell he was headed straight for Cole Stalker (33), which he only had a couple laps to do so. Neill was getting closer and closer by the second and as the race was coming to an end, the two were going over the inside hump and ended up tire to tire! Stalker kept third, while Neill finished in fourth and Bell in fifth.
In the 125cc class Cody Hardesty (185) and Bryce Arnold (9) were fighting for that fourth place spot, these two battled for quite awhile making passes against each other back and forth. At one point Hardesty got around Arnold and was going for a pass on Travis Wilkinson (199), as he was doing so Wilkinson went and pushed Hardesty right over the top of the berm which gave Arnold an advantage to get ahead of Hardesty for good.
Dean Welte (856) and Carson Anderson (5) battled almost the whole time in the 14-24 B/C race. Welte was keeping ahead of Anderson until the second lap when Anderson made the pass and put himself in front, Welte wasn’t going to let that last for long. Within the next lap around Welte came right back in and made a pass against Anderson. Anderson stayed right with Welte hoping he could make another pass but on the fourth lap around he must have crashed because he completely disappeared from the rest of the class.
Racing was intense and it's been this way all season. Tonight was no different, racing under the lights and this night with some hard to see ruts made it even more interesting. M5 is coming up this Saturday night don't want to miss the racing and the fun!
