Race Date 8-26-27-2023

The last double header of the season for GP / HS racing was earlier this year do to scheduling issues.  It was an excellent weekend for racing and riders had some great battles both on the Gp course and the HS course.  We were short staffed so I had limited time to get around and see all the racing but was able to get some of it on the kids courses and later the big bike course.  This story is from both events!

Cooper and Dane will be riders to watch as they climb the racing ladder. 201 and 152.

The battling in the 65 Beginner race started right as they took off the line. Sophia Kavsky (121), Ryker Decker (135), Trenton Rosenow (652) and Tanner Candela (131) all were racing in a group close together. As they group was coming to finish their first lap, Kavsky was leading the group, with Decker following and you could tell he was wanting to make a pass very soon. Shortly after they went over finish line jump, Decker went for the pass and almost completed the pass but ended up falling which gave Kavsky time to stay in third, moving Rosenow up to fourth, and Candela in fifth! Now the battle was between just the three, as they came out of the woods on their second lap, Rosenow was still hanging right on to Kavsky and it seemed they had pulled away from Candela just a bit while they were out in the woods. But as soon as they got back on that track Candela closed any bit of gap that was there between himself and the other two. Within just the next straight away and into the next corner, Candela made a pass on Rosenow and flipped their positions around. Rosenow still kept with them and Candela was right up on Kavsky. By the time they came out of the woods they were all just inches apart from each other, Candela was trying to fins his way around Kavsky by taking the insides now. In one of the corners, he took the inside and got right up next to Kavsky and kept next to her as they went over the next jump, but Kavsky made sure to stay ahead. She was not giving up easy, she was determined to stay ahead in third. As they head into woods they keep their places, but as they come out to finish their sixth lap, Rosenow had gotten around Candela and took his place back! The three kept battling for the last couple laps, it was going to be a close one at the finish. Kavsky held her own and didn’t let anyone pass her and ended up finishing in second (Easton Donnelly (169) who was in second had bike issues and couldn’t finish) while Rosenow finished in third and Candela in fourth!

As the B class takes off, Zach Duff (224) takes the lead with Regan Doerr (336) following closely behind in second and Reece Doerr (363) out in third. Out on the track the two are battling for that first place and Duff is just barely staying in front. By the second lap, both Reece Doerr and Regan Doerr were able to get around Duff, now starting a battle of their own. While Duff was out on the track he looked down at his bike like there could have been something wrong but he still managed to be keeping in third. The Doerr boys have been doing quite some battling this season with each other. The continued their battle all the way to the finish, Regan was able to keep the lead and win the race while Reece came in second and Duff stayed in third.

Cooper Duff (201) took off with the lead in the 12-29 C race, the rest of the class was still all bunched together. It wasn’t long before Dane miller (152), who was in second started making his way to catch up to Duff, there was only a small gap between the two by the time they got to the track of their second lap, Miller had a small gap as well between him and third place, Austin Burns (21). At the same time, Kade Heilman (447) was looking to catch them as he was picking up speed and pulling away from the battle going on behind him. Revyin Aguilar (223), Tyler Sebby (64), and Alex Johnson (5) were keeping right with each other.

Ryan Moss hammering rock creek, in the 40+ A class.

As the 65 Beginners took off the line, Jaxson McCoy (190) took the lead with Ryder Laws (188) just inches away from his back tire. The two had already put about 15 seconds on the rest of the class in just the first lap. McCoy was holding the lead until about their third lap around when Laws made the pass and stole the lead. Within a lap or two, Laws had put five seconds on McCoy, McCoy was hanging onto second place and wasn’t going to let go easily. As time went on Laws was putting more distance between herself and McCoy. There was only about five minutes left in their race, Theodore Cappiello (184) had come around in second. When McCoy came around he had a longer lap time so it’s possible he might have fell or got stuck somewhere. McCoy still was able to come around in third. This was McCoy’s first Hare Scramble ever, he actually showed up thinking today was an open ride day but quickly saw it was a race day and decided to race anyway. Totally unplanned and still placed a third! Laws kept her first and won the race while Cappiello finished in second.

Jayson Crawford (13) handle today's Hs with some smooth riding which he has shown to be his ability to control this year, in the past over riding would put him down and have to play catch up every event.  2023 has shown a new and improved riding style and some maturerity.  Ayden White (88) new to the AA class this year has proven speed and as his racing becomes more stable he will as well be right up there with the rest of the front runners as well.. Their racing was in front of the battle of the "older" guard.  In AA we watched a battle go on between Garrett Ward (31) and Matt McDonald (45). As AA took off the line and started their race, Ward was just out there just riding and playing around. As he was going through the ex part of the course, still in the first lap, Ward saw McDonald just ahead on the track, about 30 seconds ahead, and decided he was going to go after him. Within the next lap or two Ward had caught and passed McDonald and had started taking off from him just a bit. After some time went by, McDonald had came back and made a pass back on Ward to switch their places back around. Ward stayed right with him and the two battled back and forth for quite some time as they made their way through lappers and giving them even more of a challenge in their battle. Ward had made a complete pass on McDonald once again and was keeping ahead till as he was headed up one of the hills and hit a hole wrong which caused him to hurt his back pretty good, making him slow down quite a bit. McDonald got back around Ward, while Ward was still pushing through the pain just focusing on making it to the finish.  McDonald stayed ahead for the last little bit and ended up finishing in third and Ward finishing in fourth. Both riders this day were racing with some issues and are working on getting on the good side of them.

Wasnt' that long ago little one couldn't keep up now he laps his brother.

New Classes, Adjusted race orders all to make racing more fun and safer for everyone worked well, it was harder on the "keeping up with the day" process but all in all showed that it can be done and was a success.  Some other things will be tried as well, but 25+, Electric Big bikes, taking the women out of the youth class worked.  Hell they are talking about an adventure bike class one day.  Imagine that! Racing was fun and the riders had an excellent course once again this year.  Last event of the season will be Oct 21st it's the final GP at Fox Valley and it is followed by the  Rider Appreciation day on Sunday Oct 22nd.  These dates were adjusted do to the very wet weather on the planned weekend.  As this story is being assembled for the digital magazine, points battles are very close in many classes both in the Fvor Series and the URC series.  Make sure to check it out, there are many riders that would qualify for URC with a GP race and could vault them into the big aluminum URC Overall plaques for2023 season so check your scores!  We will hangin around the bon fire on Saturday night and looking forward to a great day of riding on Sunday as well.  Time change is coming and hours to ride will be much less abundent coming in a few weeks!  One last ride!  Megabanquet and Open ride for much of all this stuff will be on December 2nd @ Megatraxs Indoor riding arena slated to open in a few weeks!  Hope you all like our storys!
