Intense racing returns at the Fair!

Fair racing has been hot and cold for years at the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Mendota, but this year some very fast riders came out and put on a show.  So far it's looking good to get all 11 Megacross races at the outdoor track which hasn't happened in a very long time! Weather was perfect, and only a few kids missed their motos by bouncing around to long in the bouncy houses!   

In the 50cc 4-8 race, Karson Moon (223) was holding second place with Weston Sullivan (2) right up on him in third. Moon was doing everything he could to stay just ahead of Sullivan and was doing a good job of it but as they were going into the two corners before the finish line jump, Sullivan made a pass on Moon to take second. Moon stayed right on him and was hoping he could take his spot back with only one lap left. It wasn’t very long before Moon made the pass back and took his second place spot back. As the checkered flag was coming out Moon and Sullivan still close together, Moon stayed ahead to finish with a second, leaving Sullivan with a third.

As the 40+ B/C class took off the gate, Andrew Peiffer (792) took the lead with Jarod Dunne (624) following in second, and Tim Buettner (92) hanging out in third. These guys were racing around the track all close together, Peiffer still leading, they headed into the corner before the tower jump and it seemed like Peiffer’s front tire popped out of the rut and Dunne ended up hitting his back tire causing Peiffer’s bike to fall over. Dunne’s instantly grabbed the lead while Peiffer still tried to get back and going. Before their second lap even finished, Buettner came in and stole the lead from Dunne, switching it all up! Shortly into the third lap, Buettner had started pulling away from Dunne and the rest of the class. Dunne had Dan Loveless (716) right on him, and within the same lap he came up and passed him to take that second place spot. Checkered flag comes out and Buettner takes the win, Loveless in second and Dunne taking third!

250 A started with Lucas Geistler (836) in the lead, Nick Wallace (23) in second, Cody Barnes (99) in third, Logan Skaggs (616) in fourth and Garrett Ward (31) in fifth. The racing was intense between the front pack, even though for the first four laps there wasn’t really any passing going on. About fourth lap in Ward made his way around Skaggs and switched their places around, and then about the end of the fifth lap is where things started to get interesting, Geistler made a mistake and fell which caused Wallace to take the lead! Geistler got up quick though to stay in second but Barnes and everyone else was closer than ever to him now. Just within the next lap both Barnes and Ward made passes on Geistler, putting Geistler down to fourth. Barnes was now right up on Wallace, waiting for the right spot to get around him and take the lead, but he only had one lap to do so. Ward was keeping right with them, just within reaching distance. As Wallace and Barnes are headed down the front straight away, the two are right next to each other, they head into the corner and Barnes takes the lead! Ward was right up on Wallace but only had from the whoops section to the finish line if he wanted to make another pass, there was little to no time left. Barnes takes the checkered flag while Wallace holds off Ward to keep his second and Ward finishes in third!

Wyatt Hall (710), Tyler Spizzirri (143), and Brent Johnson (70) started their battle as soon as the 25+ B/C race started. The three were keeping close together, until beginning of second lap when something happened to Spizzirri, giving his second place to Johnson while Hall still was keeping the lead. Spizzirri was now back with Damon Quest (18) and Patrick Lunde (19) who were in fourth and fifth place. It only took about one lap and Spizzirri was right back up with Hall and Johnson, bringing himself back into the battle. As Spizzirri is right on Johnson, with only a couple laps left, he’s trying to find a way around Johnson to s

ee if he could take his place back. As they were on their last lap, Spizzirri got back around Johnson and kept second to the finish. Hall got a win and Johnson came in third.

In the second lap of Open C, Drew Wachowiak (22), Matthew Blumer (11), Troy Lawrence (287), and Braiden Herrera (8) started their battle. It didn’t take long before passes started being made, within the next lap, Herrera made a pass around Lawrence and put himself in sixth, right behind Wachowiak. As this battle is going on we see a little bit behind them, Trevor Johnson (427) holding off Cameron Linden (422), while Linden is trying to find a way around Johnson. Johnson was doing a good job of holding him off till the third lap when Linden took the inside of one of the corners to make his pass. Johnson was making sure to keep close behind Linden while Linden was coming up on Lawrence now. All the sudden Johnson got back around Linden for a short amount of time when Linden came right back up and switched their places back by once again taking the inside of the corner. On the last lap, Jacob Young (60) came up and passed both Johnson and Linden, pushing them both back a place before the finish. Linden made it to the checked just before Johnson to take ninth and leave Johnson with a tenth.

23 Challenge Pro Am is the next event at the end of the month (9-30-23) with all the new races on the pro schedule it had to be pushed back to have a chance of Chase coming home to the race.  At press time it is still not known if he will be going to the Des Nations race or not.  Changing teams is a logistical nightmare in a way everything has to go back and all the new stuff coming in.  Plus 12 weeks.  Yes after the last "super" race, it's 12 weeks til A-1.  This is a very hard schedule for the riders who have to be on their intense game almost year round now!  Megacross season has been solid and we have been reporting it all summer long.  It won't be to much longer and we will posting up stories for the Traxs Winter Series which will start in December.  Megabanquet will be early December as well!  See you all there!
