Our night starts off with the 65 Beginner class, and as our first class takes off, we see some battling already. Karson Connolly (14) takes the lead right away and has no issue with gaining a little distance between him and the rest of the class. Ryder Kelly (904) is in that second place spot with John Machay (333) right on his tail. As we watch these two intensely, Kelly is out there doing everything he can to try and pick the right lines to stay in front of Machay. Kelly was doing a good job of holding off Machay until their third lap around when Machay made a pass around Kelly and switched their places. Was Kelly going to be able to take that spot back? They still had two more laps left so their places were not locked in yet. Fourth lap around and Kelly crashes which gives Machay the advantage of keeping that second place longer. Machay was not slowing down if anything he was picking up speed, he did not let anyone catch him out there and finished with a second!
Reid Day (123) and Cutter Riebe (322) put on quite a show in the Schoolboy class. Day took the lead right away with Riebe just inches behind him. The intensity between these two were high, making everyone wonder what was going to happen between these two, if day made one mistake out there Riebe could take that lead from him. Day was holding onto that lead though and was not going to back down and Riebe was not going to give any distance between him and Day. Day kept that first to the finish with Riebe still just inches away in second.
50+ has been dominated a bit by Steve Perkins, and some of the younger 50 year olds have bee coming back from time to time, tonight Burton Lavens showed up and didn't have a stellar first moto but redeemed himself in the main with the win. Passing Perkins at the end of the last lap to go on to win. Perkins kept him honest for most of the main. 50+ had a couple different battles going on, Larry Bank (13) was holding third place with Todd Schmollinger (25) in fourth getting closer and closer until he got close enough and made a pass on Bank in the second lap. Bank didn’t back off just yet, he kept right close to Schmollinger and looked like he was going to make a pass and take his spot back. But by their lap around it seemed like Bank was starting to back off a little bit and Brian Sartain (12), who was in fifth was gaining some distance and pulling Bank in little by little. As these guys still had a couple laps left, the intensity between Bank and Sartain was rising. Schmollinger was able to keep ahead of Bank and finish with a third and as Bank and Sartain were coming to the last corner right before the finish line, they were tire to tire, maybe this is where Sartain will get him, but Bank kept ahead and finished just barely in front of Sartain.
Kane Kostellic (722) and Hudson Hinich (22) put on a pretty good battle for third and fourth place in the 50 Jr class. As Kostellic takes third, Hinich is in fourth and following closely behind him, Kostellic managed to stay just ahead of him till Hinich found a way to make a pass around him just within the second lap around. Kostellic wasn’t going to let that discourage him though, he stayed closely behind him and was waiting for the right time to take his third place back. Hinich was doing everything he could to stay just right ahead of Kostellic, but was that going to be enough? As these little guys are getting close to finish their race, Kostellic made a pass back and finished in third ahead of Hinich! These two pushed each other the whole race and did a great job!
As the gates drop for the 250 C class all 15 of them go into that first corner, and as they’re coming out of that corner we see an instant battle between Braiden Herrera (8), Colin Summers (399), and Wesley Johnson (26). These three come around their first lap all right on each other, all trying to get the lead that Herrera had. Second lap was coming to an end and as these three all come in those last couple corners right before the finish line jump, they’re switching their places and at first it seemed like Summers was taking that lead and just as he was about to Johnson came right in and pulled a pass on both of them by taking the inside hump and stole the lead! Now with Johnson in first, Summers in second, and Herrera in third, is Johnson gonna be able to keep that lead or is someone gonna come right in and steal it from him? These guys are on their third lap around now with only a couple more laps to go, Summers is out there trying to find whatever line he can take to be the quickest and find a way to pass Johnson, but Johnson was not letting go of the lead that easy. As each lap goes by, these guys are not giving up, pushing each other to their fullest out there and as it’s going to be a close one… checkered flag comes out and Johnson takes the win, Summers in second, and Herrera finishing in third!
As the Open A race was going on, all eyes were on the track! We saw battling going on left and right out there and all kinds of passes being made during this race. Gavin Sienkiewicz (402) pulled the hole shot and took the lead with Nick Wallace (1) in second, Garrett Ward (31) in third, Kyle White (19) in fourth, Bronson McCluse (352) in fifth, and Cody Barnes (99) in sixth. All of these guys are close together, not much space or distance between any of them which always makes it such an interesting race, any passes can happen at any second. Sienkiewicz is holding that first place strong while Barnes is starting to make some passes and put himself in front of McCluse, but he doesn’t let that stick for long, by the next lap he makes a pass on both Barnes and White and moves himself up to fourth right behind Wallace, while Ward makes a move on Wallace and takes second and is coming after Sienkiewicz. Is Ward going to be able to make a pass on Sienkiewicz or will Wallace steal his second back from Ward? This race could end in so many ways with just how close together these guys are. Only a couple laps left and Ward makes a pass on Sienkiewicz and takes the lead! This is when it gets real interesting, as Ward takes the lead and actually starts gaining some distance between him and the rest of the pack, we watch many other changes happening right behind him, Sienkiewicz is able to stay in second for about another lap till Wallace comes right up and takes second, and Barnes makes all sorts of passes to get himself up to third, McCluse moves down to fourth and Sienkiewicz all the way down to fifth with White placing sixth just centimeters away from Sienkiewicz. If you were there you know the intensity that was going on during this race, everyone was watching and cheering on these guys with this fantastic race!
Just a side note it was great to see Cody as when he is home from the multiple national series he races at, he likes to take time to come out and bang some laps with the fact boys. Good luck 99, it's your time to shine!
