Martin, Zont, and Hofmaster Rip Round 3
Story and Photos
By Neil Dornik
The 35+ Class got
the night started off with some great battling!
Tim Damron (849) took the holeshot and led the pack around lap one for
the first race of the night. Chae
Evans (323) exhibited more and more pressure on Damron, as the checkers grew
nearer. All the riders were hungry
for a better spot. Even back in the pack riders were banging bars, trying to
work their way up. But 5 error-free
laps from Damron granted him the victory, Evans would settle for 2nd,
and David Hayes landed the last step on the podium on his Kawasaki.
The 14*24 started class
with a huge pile-up in the first corner. Logan
Skaggs (997) and August Miksys (367) avoided the carnage and the led the way
aboard their Hondas. Running
closely behind them was #49 Colton Beard, but just like 35+ class these guys
were hungry! Spizzirri (922),
Marincic (263), and Dissell (90) were fast, and coming through the pack with
time winding down. Beard bobbled
and went down on the last lap and dropped him out of the top 5. Spizzirri (922) took home 3rd,
while Miksys (367) 2nd, and Skaggs 1st.
Next two classes
of the night to drop were the Super Mini and the 85 9-13. Taking the holeshot for the Super Mini
class was Loretta Lynn Nation Champion Chase Sexton (486) on his Yamaha. Chase would lead all 5 laps and take the
win followed by Vincent Murphy (160) in 2nd, and #317 Aaron Burmanis
in 3rd place. Max Markolf rode a smooth race on his Yamaha took the win in
the 85 9-13 class.
20+ 50 Jr and Sr riders rocketed off the gate next after the 85 riders got off the track. Krystian Janik (759) put on a show taking the win in the main event after a third place finish
in the heat. James McDannel (19) took the top spot on
the podium on his Polini in the Main event with a great race. Have to give it up to all the young
talent of our sport and all the time and effort both the kids and the parents
put into it. AWESOME! Plus another
almost 15 riders in the 50cc 4-8 class, Hunter Savage (526) took the win in that
division.
Speaking of talent, time for the A class! 7 laps of all-out, heart pounding adrenaline. A dozen + Open A riders left the gate to a clean start. Maxx Malatia (39) nailed the holeshot and led for first portion of the first lap.
Tommy
Hofmaster(110) got right beside Malatia down the double, double, step-up section
and made the pass after the straightaway. A
pair of Hondas sat in 3rd and 4th at the moment Justin
Kelly (904), and Ross Martin (837). With
a race as intense as this you cannot even blink for a second or you might miss
something epic! At the halfway
point, Hofmaster went off the track before the infield tabletop and let the
Martin (837) and Malatia (39) by. Malatia
led Martin throughout lap 5 but felt the pressure in every corner. After the double, double, step-up Martin
made a pass stick, which also allowed Hofmaster to get by Malatia to pick up
another spot moving on to the final lap. On
the final lap, Malatia tried to make up some ground on Hofmaster but made a
slip-up while in third and gave the last podium spot to Kelly (904). Hofmaster hung on the 2nd
place, and Ross took the win in Open A.
David Hayes (63) was the first to the
corner in the 40+ class and would take the win after leading all 5 laps. Joining him on the podium was Jason
Urban (35) in 2nd and Steven Perkins (164) on his Honda with a 3rd
place ride. Next off the line was
the 125cc class and the #305 of Cory Catalani took the early lead. Ricki Williams (160) and Travis
(131) both had a bad get-off together toward the front of the pack and knocked
themselves out of a chance for a win. Catalani
went on to take the victory, joining him on the podium were another pair of
Yamahas William Markolf (312) in 2nd, and Kyle Moore in 3rd.
Next class of the night, and always an
exciting one, was the 25+A/B classes. Scott Zont (923) pulls the holeshot and led a stacked group
of riders around lap one. After the completion of lap one the running order was
Zont, Tommy Hofmaster (110), Ross Martin (837), Greg Hochmuth (911), and Jason
Kloptowsky (410). Scott, Tommy, and
Ross would battle all the way to the checkers, applying pressure wherever
pressure could be applied, but no passes where made. The riders finished in the order they started off the gate. Zont- 1st, Hofmaster-2nd,
Martin-3rd.
A familiar name and view, Chase Sexton, takes the
holeshot and the win in the 85 Sr class with Max Markolf (827) for second and
Anthony Wallace (91) for third. In
the Jr class it was Noah Taylor (14) on his Yamaha who took the win. All the 65 classes are the next, and
last on the track before the 250A riders get to show their moves. The beginner first place spot went to
Jason Pelka (150) on his Kawasaki, Tommy Fortune Jr. (6) raced his way to 1st
place in the Jr class. And in the
65 Sr class Conner Burger (379) claimed victory on his KTM.
Here we go! Onto the 250A class. Scott
Zont (923) grabs another holeshot with Ross Martin (837) right behind him,
already beginning to apply pressure. Brandon
Pope (194) with a great start is running in third, with Tommy Hofmaster (110) in
fourth and Maxx Malatia (39) in fifth place.
Hofmaster made the pass of Pope of the third lap on the straightaway, and
Martin worked the outside lines trying the get around Zont for the lead. The pressure is building and time is
running out leading into the fourth lap. Zont
holds strong on the 5th lap, Martin in showing him a wheel everywhere
he can, but he keeps the lead. Just
until the 6th lap, Zont made a small mistake, which allows Ross by to
take the lead. Ross would continue
on the take the win, but there was a lot of battling behind him! Hofmaster closed up on Zont in the
remaining few corners and came just short of the second place spot. Malatia (39) made the pass on Pope (194)
for the 4th place spot, but Pope would go on to finish 5th.
The Women were the next to hit the
track before the Quad A, B, and C classed went out a Kim Chandler (20) took the
holeshot on her Kawasaki. She was
trailed by the #41 machine on Alyssa Haling and Danielle Wilkinson (74) on her Honda. Chandler would hold on for the win and
Haling 2nd, and Wilkinson 3rd.
Adam
Koehler (88) takes the holeshot in the 4-wheel A class aboard his KTM and led
and A and B classes into the first corner.
Koehler would lead all 5 laps and would have Billy Garrey (74) and Justin
Medine (129) join him on the podium after some battling for the second and third
place positions. Brandon Cesaroni
(243) would take the win the 4-wheel B class, and Brett Rutherford (1) took the
top spot in 4-Wheel C.
In the
30+ class, it was Tommy Hofmaster (110) who took the holeshot with Jason
Kloptowsky (410), and Burton Lavens (763), neck and neck around the first few
corners. A few riders started to
step up and a few passes were made, and the top 3 after lap one was Hofmaster,
Kloptowsky, and Chae Evans (323). Greg
Hochmuth (911) and Evans would do a little battling for the last podium spot,
but Hochmuth would have the edge on Evans and gain the position. The riders would finish in those positions at the checkers
with Hofmaster taking the win; Lavens (763) would round out the top 5.
It was a full drop the 30+ B/C riders
combined! Zeno Molteni (473) made it out front on the B class by the end of lap
1. A whole bunch of bar banging
with a whole track full of riders in this class! With the checkered flag waving it was Zeno who held on to the
win, Billy Walker (92) for 2nd, and Michael Monn (39/) took home the
3rd place spot.
250 B riders are off and it’s August
Miksys (367) with the holeshot on his Honda, followed by Mark Marincic (263) and
Colton Beard (49). One lap into the
race Marincic closes in tight on Miksys and tries to make a move for the lead. He continues to show August a wheel for
another lap but no pass is made. Top
five are neck and neck! Marincic
makes the pass before the triple and ride a smooth rest of the race to take the
win. The guys behind him were
letting it all hang out! After some passing and place shuffling the last two
podium spots went to Lucas Hayes (63) for 2nd place, and Ryan
Robinson (36) on his Kawasaki for 3rd.
Another full drop for the Open C class
Saturday night. With 20+ riders the
results were Trevor Hayes (163), Kolton Day (197), and Byree Olson (23/) going
1,2,3! Trevor Hayes, basically
running back to back classes, also takes the win in the 250C class with Bradley
Cesaroni (232) holding down 2nd and Brett Guffey (32) 3rd
place.
Just before that race was the Open B
riders and it was the #997 machine of Logan Skaggs taking the holeshot and
opening up a commanding lead in the early laps. Matt Dissell (90), and Brandon Mennie (60) began to work up
through that pack and try to work on Ryan George (240) and get that second place
spot. Time ran short and what they
had was not enough and George held on to the 2nd place position. Dissell would hold on to the last podium
spot in Open B.
