Martin, McCabe, and Malatia hammer Megacross.
6-19-2010 round 6.
Ross Martin (837) returns to Megacross this day and his fine running Honda found it's way to the front as Ross has had this track dialed for years. Kurt McCabe headed east from his home state Iowa to make it and interesting dual. Kurt made it known that he was ready for the task as he hounded Ross most of the night. Only a couple small errors kept it from being a closer finish in the expert classes. Kyle Corman made his return to Megacross and took third in the 250 A main. Story of that that race was interesting to watch. It was a proverbial freight train of expert riders 1st through 6th. Martin leading, McCabe, Max Malatia, Kyle Corman, Jon Six, and Kevin Markwardt.
In the Open A class a very similar race happened but with little fan fair. In the last 250 A main, Corman kept testing the waters on Malatia, every corner coming under and Maxx closing the door. Entering into lap 5 you could see Kyle getting impatient with the progress of the race. Then it happened in the SE big bowl turn. Corman goes low and pushes Maxx off the outside line and he misses the jump.......the flood gates open, all the top riders mentioned pass Maxx. With the exceptional riding Malatia has shown in his first year in A class these things will happen from time to time. Open A class he held the third chasing the leaders and not dealing with the fight for 4-7th place.
Racing for a few weeks will be uncommonly quiet in the 30A, 35+ and the 25+ classes. We call him "Turbo"... (763) caught the last whoop in the chopped up soft new whoops (that were built that day in the mud) wrong, and fell in the bowl turn before the south jump. Driving his shoulder directly into the ground and snapping his collarbone. Rumor has it that Tommy Hofmaster another regular also broke his collarbone that same weekend at another track. Going to interesting who will take up the slack with these Megacross chargers on the sidelines. Hope the both..... Heal up fast !!!!
Skee Hartman, and Jim Cherry did put on a remarkable race, Jim held on for the win, with Skee trying every way possible to pass.
Quad A class has been some of the biggest A classes over this start of the season. 6 riders tonight actually was one of the smallest of the year but action was intense as Jeremy Beetz (255 )
did his best to hold off Justin Medine. They raced hard lap after lap with Justin using every square inch of the track, while Jeremy did the same! James Herbert, Neil Hambly, and Adam Koehler rounded out the top 5.
Quad C was the largest class of the 4 wheel nature this evening. 12 beginner types on 4 wheels was a battle that was seen to be believed. Once these guys get thier timing down it will be less hair raising but when it was all over Austin Vearhees and Ted Loomis took the 1st and 2nd spots. Brandon Chapman and Jeremy Steder banged to 3rd and 4th respectively. Kyle Monk finished 5th.
Matt Mellot holeshots the heat race and Robbie Hyson tried to pass with Paul Gerke hot on his heels. Robbie(4) didn't get it done in the Heat race. Main comes around about the time it gets dark, Robbie this time takes the lead and Matt, and Paul were trying to find a way by. Robbie has proven all summer that he is a pretty formidable racer on a 125. Ricki Williams and Kody Smith rounded out that main event's top 5.
Megacross as many has endured rain week after week all year and even last year. Racing is intense and track conditions haven't been the "greatest" but the riders find ways to conquer the conditions. Next race at Megacross is 7-10-2010 with Yamaha, Suzuki, and Husky contingency. Thumpers/Pit bikes will be hangin it out at this next event................keep fingers crossed for good weather!!!
