Johnson, Lankutis, Swim conquer Fox Valley Off Road.

7-27-2008 rnd 3.

The third round of the FVOR HS series went off with the highest rider turn out to date for this young series.  Johnson the up and coming young rider who just a few short years ago was on an 85, did his best and held off Capodice the better part of the race.  Capodice along with about 20 some others found a side trail and missed the finish line barrels the first lap.  So even though they had a great race, the scores show a big gap because of the miscue.  MATT CAPODICE wasted no time setting the pace on the first lap - turning a 8:42 lap time. Hot on the heels of the leaders were SHANE KLIMEK and ROBERT JOHNSON, both looking good, and looking to make up time on the leaders. The race was young - there were still plenty of opportunities for either of them to take the win. MIKE CAPODICE was looking good cruising through the checkpoint with only 0:04 separating him and LEE LANKUTIS riding in the number 5 position. LEE LANKUTIS was giving us a lesson in physical training by seeming to stroll through the gates in third place ..... but sill trailing the second place rider by 0:17. JEFF SNEDECOR was riding hard, watching as things came unglued behind - but that's their problem .... meanwhile thinking "my job" is to whittle away at the lead and move up a notch to claim the third place, just 0:45 ahead. Johnson and Capodice here in "rock" creek. (see photo right) They were so close that the proverbial "blanket" could cover them.....

Mr Johnson won his first "overall" at FVOR and made his claim as an "A" rider a valid one.

We saw 14 entries in the event, wrestling their machines through 11 laps, with 1 out of 14 eventually finishing all 11 laps.

AUTUMN TORRES burned up the first lap, turning a 2:45 lap time. HAYDON SCHMIDT was looking good cruising through the checkpoint with only 0:09 separating him and SHANE REILLY riding in the number 3 position. TANNER WHIPPLE was looking good cruising through the checkpoint with only 0:06 separating him and THOR RICK riding in the number 5 position.
AUTUMN TORRES was still in the lead at the end of lap 2 riding well, doing his best to ensure the lead didn't change for the remainder of the event.
The movers on this lap were DALTON GARECHT, moving up 1 places from number 9 to number 8 - meanwhile TRAVIS WILKINSON dropped from number 12 to the number 14 position. Wow - we have us a race - our second place rider, (HAYDON SCHMIDT) has stopped messing around and is clearly moving on the first place rider - behind by 0:15. Engine screaming, SHANE REILLY flew through the checkpoint in third place, trailing by 0:02 on lap 2. Trailing by only 0:04, TANNER WHIPPLE was riding hard, watching as things came unglued behind - but that's their problem .... thinking "my job" is to whittle away at the lead and move up a notch to claim the third place spot. Our number five rider was THOR RICK, behind by 0:10.
We had a new leader at the end of lap 3, with SHANE REILLY taking the lead away from AUTUMN TORRES with HAYDON SCHMIDT arriving at the checkpoint in the number 2 position - behind by 0:07.  We had a new leader at the end of lap number 11, with THOR RICK taking the lead away from SHANE REILLY.
In the end it was an awesome race with 3 different leaders battling to the end,  THOR RICK that claimed victory over the efforts of AUTUMN TORRES, and SHANE REILLY.

The 30+ A class  BRAD POWERS set the pace early in the race - leading the pack through the checkpoint on the first lap with a 9:36 lap time. Coming in number 2 was TIM FARRELL, on the gas, but a little off the pace - now trailing by 0:44. Following on their heels were RICHARD BRUCE and CLINTON PHERIGO (445) separated by 0:13. At the end of lap number 2, BRAD POWERS still had the lead, followed 0:59 later by TIM FARRELL. CLINTON PHERIGO was giving it everything on the course - and it was paying off - moving from fourth to third place, trailing by 0:54. Meanwhile RICHARD BRUCE held onto fourth place. PATRICK MCCLURE was riding like a person possessed, in fifth place, trailing by 11:25.
BRAD POWERS was still in the lead at the end of lap 3 with the rest of the pack picking the track debris from their goggles and chest protectors. TIM FARRELL kept a cool head and staked a claim on the number 2 spot, buth with a 0:51 disadvantage. Meanwhile CLINTON PHERIGO held onto the number three position. RICHARD BRUCE was starting to wonder how long this event was going to be - but still rolled through the chekckpoint in fourth place. Pushing to gain another spot was, PATRICK MCCLURE finishing lap 3 in fifth place - behind by 10:30.
At the end of lap number 4, BRAD POWERS still had the lead, continuing to set the pace on the track. TIM FARRELL was doing some brilliant riding, coming through the gates in second place, trying to eliminate that 0:27 deficit. Meanwhile CLINTON PHERIGO held onto the number three position. RICHARD BRUCE was having an incredible ride, running a strong fourth, only 3:40 off the pace of the third place rider. Vitalized by support from the crowd, PATRICK MCCLURE was doing well, coming through in fifth place - trailing by 8:49.
BRAD POWERS was still in the lead at the end of lap 5 riding well, doing his best, but with a smaller lead than on the previous lap. CLINTON PHERIGO turned up the throttle, and came through the checkpoint in third place. Engine screaming, RICHARD BRUCE flew through the checkpoint in fourth place, trailing by 4:18 on lap 5. PATRICK MCCLURE was already feeling the length of the race, but blew through the chutes in the number five spot - looking for that second wind.
At the end of lap number 6, BRAD POWERS still had the lead, continuing to set the pace on the track. TIM FARRELL was having an incredible ride, running a strong second, only 0:02 off the pace of the first place rider. CLINTON PHERIGO was giving the second place rider a run for the money - but wasn't able to take the position - still in third place, trailing by 1:18. Vitalized by support from the crowd, RICHARD BRUCE was doing well, coming through in fourth place - trailing by 5:58. Vitalized by support from the crowd, PATRICK MCCLURE was doing well, coming through in fifth place - trailing by 7:44.

Earlier in the day, the 85/s and 65's had their hands full. Some of the new course or "virgin' areas were on their of the park.  Tight twisty off cambers, single track that would make a C rider cringe. Those little guys made it look easy, one hill back in corner of the park was a problem.  Most of their hour long race some one went down and made it interesting. In the overall standings, the riders rolled into the first corner with 24 riders all fighting for the hole shot. Of those, 11 riders eventually finished all 8 laps. The scoring team did well, surviving 149 attempts to cover them with debris from the track. This report is for the 65's and 85's as an overall view, we did this to show that the top kids in the 65's can compete easily heads up with those "old" 85cc kids!  in fact with the time seperation removed, some of the 65's did excellent!!
DYLAN KRESS burned up the first lap, turning a 1:10 lap time, followed 0:02 later by MIKE BLOCK. Number 3 was DRAKE LINEBACK, a little off the pace, but looking good coming through the checkpoint trailing by 0:01. CODY FORTHAM and TRAVIS WARD were next through the gates - separated by 0:03.
One rider dropped out sometime before the end of lap 2, with 23 riders completing lap 2.
Lap 2 had DYLAN KRESS still in the lead, followed by CODY FORTHAM.
The action on this lap centered on MITCHELL TERNES, moving up from number 21 to the number 11 spot - and on MIKE BLOCK dropping 11 places - from number 2 to number 13. Although consistent with the game plan - it was time for TRAVIS WARD to make a move since a third place finish wasn't going to snag that 1st place trophy. Coming through in fourth, JAKE SEIBERT wasn't even looking back - content to work on the 0:14 lead held by the third place rider ahead. Riding in fifth place, DRAKE LINEBACK was doing his best to reel in that number 4 spot.
One rider dropped out sometime before the end of lap 3, with 22 riders completing lap 3.Still on the gas, DYLAN KRESS remained in the lead during lap 3 staying ahead of JAKE SEIBERT who was trailing by 0:55.The action on this lap centered on JOSHUA SEIBERT, moving up from number 18 to the number 14 spot - and on CODY FORTHAM dropping 7 places - from number 2 to number 9. TRAVIS WARD maintained his position on this lap - holding the number 3 spot, trailing by 0:11. Thinking about spending a little more time at the gym in preparation for a workout like this, GRANT BODNER(355) still owned fourth place - trailing by 0:15. NOLAN SCHUHLER turned up the throttle, and came through the checkpoint in fifth place.
We lost 3 riders by the time we'd reached the end of lap 4, with 19 completing lap number 4.
At the end of lap number 4, DYLAN KRESS still had the lead, continuing to set the pace on the track.
The movers on this lap were DRAKE LINEBACK, moving up 2 places from number 6 to number 4 - meanwhile NOLAN SCHUHLER dropped from number 5 to the number 7 position. Riding like a 'possessed' person - JAKE SEIBERT was ripping through the checkpoint - but still in second place, and trailing by 1:20. TRAVIS WARD was starting to wonder how long this event was going to be - but still rolled through the chekckpoint in third place. DRAKE LINEBACK was feeling the effects of the course, thinking it might help to get in a few workouts at the local gym before the next event - but still held the four spot - trailing by 0:32. GRANT BODNER refused to sit back - it's not over until it's over - and was in fifth place, trailing the fourth place rider by 0:30.
One rider dropped out sometime before the end of lap 5, with 18 riders completing lap 5.

Pushing to gain another spot was, GRANT BODNER finishing lap 5 in second place. Riding in third place, DRAKE LINEBACK cranked it up, but was still behind by 0:06. Riding like a 'possessed' person - TRAVIS WARD was ripping through the checkpoint - but still in fourth place, and trailing by 0:02. JARRED HALL (150), rode well on this lap - going from sixth place to fifth, but with more room to make up since there was still a 0:30 disadvantage.
DYLAN KRESS was still in the lead at the end of lap 6 riding well, doing his best, but with a smaller lead than on the previous lap.
The movers on this lap were DALTON BROUGH, heavy on the throttle able to move up 2 places from number 6 to number 4 - meanwhile JOSHUA SEIBERT fell off the pace and dropped from number 13 to the number 16 position. DRAKE LINEBACK was clearly doing well on the track, moving from third place to second place, trailing the first place rider by 2:49. Could it be this easy ..... GRANT BODNER seemed to ghost through the checkpoint in third place. DALTON BROUGH refused to sit back - it's not over until it's over - and was in fourth place, trailing the third place rider by 0:50. JARRED HALL was already feeling the length of the race, but blew through the chutes in fifth place, looking for that second wind.
We lost 4 riders by the time we'd reached the end of lap 7, with 14 completing lap number 7.

DYLAN KRESS was still in the lead at the end of lap 7 riding well, doing his best to ensure the lead didn't change for the remainder of the event.
We watched as two riders made the largest gains (and losses) on this lap - with JAKE SEIBERT, moving up from number 8 to the number 7 spot - meanwhile NOLAN SCHUHLER dropped 8 places from number 7 to number 8. DRAKE LINEBACK was giving it everything to capture first place, but this lap ended ended still holding onto second place, trailing by 1:19. GRANT BODNER kept a cool head and staked a claim on the number three spot, buth with a 1:12 disadvantage. Riding in fourth place, DALTON BROUGH was doing his best to reel in that number 3 spot. JARRED HALL refused to sit back - it's not over until it's over - and was in fifth place, trailing the fourth place rider by 0:32.
We lost 3 riders by the time we'd reached the end of lap 8, with 11 completing lap number 8.

The action on the track centered around GRANT BODNER, moving up from number 3 to the number 2 spot - meanwhile DRAKE LINEBACK dropped 2 places, from number 2 to the number 4 position. GRANT BODNER was saying "Hold the Phone" - I'm still in the game. In second place .... there was only 2:11 separation between the number 2 spot and the first place rider. The third place position belonged to DALTON BROUGH, doing some killer riding, but still behind by 0:21. Thinking about spending a little more time at the gym in preparation for a workout like this, DRAKE LINEBACK still owned fourth place - trailing by 0:32. It looks like JARRED HALL may be taking the number 5 spot to the bank - trailing the fourth place rider by 0:19.

Roger Swim (Kaw) had one of his better runs this day, Brad Holder (new race jersey) tried to keep him honest but in the end Roger rode excellent for the win.  Scores and scoreboard story were lost in a confusion as the 4 wheel classes were scored on the big bike computer, so when that computer was set up, poof! Quad scores disappeared.  Something  to be said for "PAPER" as once the day was done it was discovered the scores were toast.  Anyway some notable notes, Kevin Johnson did the "worker" deal, McCarrens well he rode a Yamaha of all things. Dan Seiner was the ever consistant rider as he motored up the trail. The quad start was delayed as they waited for "Mr. Brooks" to unload his 400 Honda.
